Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says the Trump administration is preparing to expand immigration enforcement in Chicago, with DHS requesting logistical aid from Naval Station Great Lakes, despite no request or consent from local officials.

Noem confirmed on Face the Nation that additional federal resources will be allocated to ongoing ICE activities. The move follows Trump’s warning to Gov. JB Pritzker to “straighten out” Chicago or face intervention.

Mayor Brandon Johnson has signed an order prohibiting Chicago police from assisting in civil immigration enforcement, including patrols and checkpoints, citing the city’s declining crime rates. In the same interview, Governor Pritzker suggested Trump’s actions may be part of a broader effort to disrupt, or even seize control of, the 2026 elections.
