Work is moving ahead at the Old Fort replica as a local nonprofit is beginning to push for a broader restoration plan. Old Fort Madison Preservation Inc. says roof repairs are underway now, with next steps that include raising parts of the site out of the floodplain, replacing the palisade, and adding an ADA-accessible Living History Center for year-round use.

To help cover costs, the group is taking pre-paid enchilada orders through Monday, Sept. 15, at $25 per dozen for veggie, and $27 for beef. Pickup is Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Fort Madison Elks Lodge from noon to 8 p.m. Orders can be placed by calling or texting board secretary Robin Delaney at 319-470-3642.

Organizers plan to present their updated business plan to the City Council on Oct. 21.
