The event follows a similar mobilization in June that drew over five million participants nationwide. Organizers say the October 18 protests aim to maintain that momentum and push back against what they see as escalating threats to democratic rights and freedoms.
The Burlington protest is one of several in the region, including events in Washington, Muscatine, Keokuk, Fairfield, and Galesburg. Linda Schneider, who’s organizing the Burlington protest, emphasized that the movement centers on nonviolent action and community involvement.
