Joan Corrine Remmers Steffener, age 94, of rural Sperry, died peacefully Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Azria Health Prairie Ridge in Mediapolis, Iowa.
Born April 19, 1931, she was the daughter of Henry and Lena Hadler Remmers. On April 24, 1949, she married Arthur Steffener in Sperry.
She was a 1948 graduate of Sperry High School. Over the years, Joan worked for The National Research Bureau, Sperry Store, Park Manor Laundry Service, and That Extra Size Shop, before retiring from JCPenney’s. She also farmed alongside her husband and son.
Joan served as a Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Coordinator, Church Choir, Church Board Trustee, and a member of UMW: United Methodist Women and The Red Hat Society.
She was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed attending her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s events; the Des Moines County Fair; reading; scrap booking for her family; yard work; gardening; animals, especially dogs; her beloved Bassett Hounds Duchess; and country living.
Survivors include daughter-in-law: Mary Steffener of Sperry; grandsons: Darren (Erin) Steffener of Mediapolis, Nathan (Natalie) Steffener of Sperry, and Jordan Steffener of Sperry; granddaughter Jacqueline (Dilan) Beaird of Sperry; great grandchildren: Haley Ann Steffener, Ella Jayne Steffener, Luke David Steffener, Addison Joan Steffener, Jessica Claire Steffener, Hallie Ray Beaird, and Baby Beaird due in January of ’26; two nieces: Karen (Butch) Powers of Burlington and Bette (Denny) Russell of Sperry; one nephew, Richard (Holly) Steffener of Mediapolis; and several great nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Art, three sons: Michael, David, and Daniel; and her parents.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The memorial service for Mrs. Steffener will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Sperry Global Methodist Church with Tracey Burgus officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Sperry Global Methodist Church.

Traci Loring Timmerman, 55, of West Des Moines, died Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born October 11, 1970, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward Charles and Diane Slocum Timmerman.
She graduated from Burlington High School in 1989, SCC in 1997 and then later from AIB in Des Moines in 1999.
Traci was a huge fan of 80’s rock and roll music, especially the band Kiss. She loved going to concerts as often as she could. Traci also loved her cats, Phoebe and Daisy.
Survivors include mother, Diane Timmerman of Burlington; very special aunt, Becky Galloway; and many friends who were like sisters to her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Timmerman.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Friday, November 28, 2025 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice and the ALS Association.

Jack Dahlsten, 71, of rural Burlington, died Friday, November 21, 2025.
Born December 12, 1953, in Burlington, he was the son of George and Mildred (Leas) Dahlsten. On December 12, 1975, he married Janice Jones in Burlington.
He was a 1972 graduate of Mediapolis High School. Jack continued his education at SCC and graduated from the welding program.
Jack spent 30 years working at J.I. Case. He began his career as a factory welder, before spending his final ten years in the experimental department. He was a proud member of the UAW Local 807 union. After retirement, he happily started his second career taking over the family farm.
Jack loved the outdoors; he enjoyed fishing, boating on the river, and growing an enormous garden, which he shared generously. He also loved hunting, whether it was ducks, geese, mushrooms, or for or his next deal on Facebook Marketplace. Jack was a strong advocate for side-by-sides and loved going for rides. Jack never met a stranger and was always eager to host friends, family, and anyone who crossed his path. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Dahlsten of Burlington; two sons, Bradley Dahlsten of Ames and Matthew (Kaela) Dahlsten of Roland, IA; three grandchildren, Henry, Max, and Amelia; and his brother, Frank Dahlsten of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George Jr.
Visitation will be from noon until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The funeral service for Jack will be 11:00 AM Monday, December 1, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, with Reverend Tamara Wirt officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the service.
A memorial has been established to be used for local conservation and community efforts.

Kay (June) Johnson, age 83, passed away peacefully with her son and daughter-in-law by her side on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa. The daughter of Maurice William and Ethel (Murray) June, Kay was born on June 11, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa.
Kay and her family lived in New London until 1944 when Ethel and her daughters moved to Burlington. At the end of the war in 1945, Kay went to live with her maternal grandparents, Charles and Iva (Calhoun) Murray who farmed north of Wapello. Kay attended school in Grandview, Iowa from kindergarten through 4th grade. In 1952, following the death of her grandfather, Kay, her sister, her mother and grandmother moved to Wapello. In 1954, Kay’s mother Ethel married Merton Askren who became the patriarch of the newly formed family.
A graduate of Wapello High School in 1960, Kay was active in marching and concert band, choir and basketball.
On December 14, 1960, Kay married Norman Johnson of Wapello in Iowa City. Norman was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1962, and the couple spent 2 years at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, NY where Kay worked as a waitress at the Hotel Thayer. After the couple returned to Iowa in 1964, Kay attended Burlington Business College and then worked as a secretary at B.L. Robinson Electric Supply from 1965 until 1968. In September of 1968, Kay and Norman adopted their daughter Gwen, and Kay gave birth to their son Charles in August of 1969.
In 1979, the family moved back to Wapello and Kay worked as the bookkeeper at Tillman Motor Company, the local Ford dealership for many years, and then as a cashier at Jack and Jill Grocery Store. Kay enjoyed playing cards with her friends and watching her children’s and grandchildren’s sports and music activities. Kay and Norman enjoyed camping and taking their children on RAGBRAI five times in the 1980’s. Kay and Norman loved to dance and would go dancing on the weekends whenever they had a chance.
More opportunities to dance came after retirement when Kay and Norman would winter in Mission, TX. They spent over 10 years travelling there to spend time with their new friends to escape the Iowa winters. Following Norman’s death on May 24, 2016, Kay returned to Mission, TX in the winters of 2017 and 2018 before health issues limited her ability to return.
Kay was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Order of the Eastern Star, both in Wapello.
Kay is survived by her son, Charles (Lisa) Johnson of Kalona, Iowa; her sister, Barbara Lancaster of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Courtney (Alexander) Chandrea of Asbury, Iowa and Cassidy Johnson of Truckee, California; step-grandchildren Logan Wadsworth of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Lexy (Jaemin) Powell of Des Moines, Iowa; great-grandchildren Maya, Pua and Ronan Chandrea and step-great-granddaughter Elliana Powell; sisters-in-law Donna (Bill) Maddux and Opal (Dick) Taylor, both of Wapello; three cousins and many nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her husband Norman, her daughter Gwen Johnson-Walker, her parents and stepfather, three brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, two aunts, an uncle and a cousin.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello. Burial will be in the Wapello Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Washington County Hospice, Great River Hospice or the Wapello Cemetery in memory of Kay. Tammy was born July 25, 1963 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the daughter of Ronald D. and Elaine (Smith) Good. In 1979 she married Rodney McIntyre. They later divorced. In 1989 she married Kevin Vaughn. They later divorced.
Tammy worked all of her life in healthcare; often working more than one job at a time to provide for her family. Her caring personality made healthcare the perfect fit for her. She was employed by Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst, Rosebush Gardens in Burlington and Henderson County Home Health, where she took pride in allowing her patients to stay in the comfort of their own home. Lastly, she was employed as Social Director for the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center, where she retired from.
In her free time, she enjoyed watching TV, especially episodes of Gun Smoke with her father. Most important to Tammy, was the time spent with her family.
Survivors include three children: Dena McIntyre of Lomax, David McIntyre of Lomax and Tiffany Davis of Watseka, Illinois; three grandchildren: Kyla, Alexis and Novalynn McIntyre; one sister: Sherry Good of Stronghurst and two nieces: Hannah Campbell and Caitlin Peterson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Shane and Richard Good; one grandson: Ryan Davis and one nephew: Joshua Good.
The details for a Celebration of Tammy’s Life will be announced. A memorial fund has been set for the family.
