Two staff members at the Iowa State Penitentiary were attacked Wednesday by at least one inmate at the prison.
The Iowa Department of Corrections has confirmed that both staff members are in stable condition and are being treated at a local hospital.
In a statement, an Iowa Department of Corrections spokesperson said the safety of staff is the department’s highest priority and that officials are working in coordination with the Division of Criminal Investigation to examine the incident. The spokesperson added that the inmates involved will be held responsible for their actions.
