
Law enforcement officials in the central part of the state are searching for a man who failed to return to his work release facility late last week who has ties to Henry County.
The Iowa Department of Corrections reported that Richard Wayne Shaul did not check back in at Fort Des Moines — Building 70 on Friday, as required under the terms of his work release program.
Shaul has multiple convictions across several counties, including second-degree theft in Henry County, second-degree burglary and second-degree unauthorized use of a credit card involving a $1,000 theft in Marion County, and in Polk County convictions for being a habitual offender, failure to affix a tax stamp, first-degree theft, and second-degree robbery.
Shaul is described as a 55-year-old white male who stands 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs approximately 216 pounds.
He was placed at the work release facility on July 30, 2025.
