Local Democrats and Republicans used Monday evening’s off-year caucuses to shape party platforms and rally around key issues.

Lee County Republican Chair James Creen told the Pen City Current one of his main goals at the GOP caucus, held at the Pilot Grove Community Room in Donnellson, was to recruit delegates. He noted that having strong participation is especially important with five candidates competing in the 2026 governor’s race.

Meanwhile, Lee County Democratic Chair Mary Jo Riesberg said enthusiasm was high among Democrats, who are looking to build momentum following recent special election wins.
