The Burlington City Council removed several proposed spending items from their upcoming 2026-2027 Budget during their meeting this week. Among the items was a $200,000 floor renovation at the Burlington Memorial Auditorium and a $2.2 million request for artificial turf on the infield at Community Field. Mayor John Billups says he told the Burlington Bees, who operate the stadium, that they need to find ways to expand the use of the facility throughout the year. After losing their Major League Baseball minor league affiliation, the Bees became a collegiate summer league team with a season that starts later and ends earlier, reducing the field’s use.
