The Keokuk School Board has approved a budget reducation plan that will see cuts from a number of budget items and reduce the amount of staff in the Keokuk School District over time.
Strategies include reassignments, increased staff sharing between buildings, and adjusting class sections. Of the district’s 175 licensed positions, three full-time roles will be eliminated for the 2026–27 school year, increasing to 10 in 2028, with most reductions coming through attrition and retirements.
Additional changes by 2028 include the elimination of stipends for five student clubs or activities. Two high school programs will be discontinued, along with one program each at the middle school, elementary, and district levels.
District officials say the cuts are tied to reduced population in the area.
