Months of public tension between the Henry County Attorney and the Henry County Sheriff’s office appear to have boiled over as Henry County Attorney Darin Stater formally handed in his resignation this week. The controversy began after Slater added Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy Carlos Lopez on a list of law enforcement officers with incidents of untruthfulness or credibility issues after he says Lopez made “false and misleading statements” in acquiring a search warrant as part of an investigation into a local business. A judge later said that accusation was without evidence. Lopez requested the county board pay him over $20,000 to cover his legal fees. Slater’s resignation is effective February 9th.
