A 19 home subdivision has been approved in West Burlington, and it will be built by prison labor.
During Wednesday’s council meeting, members approved plans for the Penn Landing subdivision, which will include 19 stick-built houses constructed through the Homes for Iowa program at the Newton Correctional Facility. The subdivision is located north along East Pennington Street.
Under the program, incarcerated individuals build the homes at the facility before they are transported to the development site. City infrastructure work for the project is expected to begin in April.
