A high school student was killed Friday in a rollover crash in Henry County.
The WACO Community School District reports that senior Kyler Rugg died Saturday at University of Iowa Hospitals after being injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash.
The Iowa State Patrol reported the accident occurred in the 1700 block of Franklin Avenue, south of Trenton. Authorities said Rugg was driving southbound when his SUV was unable to navigate a curve, leading to a loss of control. The vehicle rolled several times, and Rugg, who was the only person inside, was ejected. The crash report indicated a seatbelt was not being worn.
In a statement posted on the district’s social media accounts, Superintendent Spencer Lueders expressed sympathy for Rugg’s family and friends, calling the loss devastating for the school community. The district also announced that expanded counseling services would be available Monday to support students and staff.
