Burlington drivers should prepare for a temporary intersection closure beginning Today.
City officials say the intersection of Washington Street and 5th Street will be fully closed to both vehicles and pedestrians. The closure will allow crews to remove existing pavement and install new storm sewer infrastructure as part of the ongoing reconstruction project.
Motorists are encouraged to detour using Jefferson, Columbia, 4th, 6th, and Main Streets. Alleys located east and west of 5th Street will continue to have access to Washington Street.
Construction crews are currently focusing on the Washington Street and 3rd Street intersection, with the goal of reopening that area as soon as possible.
