With warmer, drier and windier weather expected, Des Moines County Emergency Management is urging residents to stay mindful of the county’s Red Flag Warning burn ban policy.
Under the policy, any time the National Weather Service issues a Red Flag Warning for Des Moines County, a countywide burn ban is automatically enacted.
During a Red Flag Warning, all forms of open burning are prohibited across the county until the warning is lifted. The restriction applies to brush piles, yard waste, agricultural burns, recreational fires and any other outdoor burning activities.
Residents can monitor current burn ban statuses through the “Burn Ban Map” provided by the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office, which offers real-time updates.
