The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam targeting people in the area.
Authorities say callers are contacting residents from unknown numbers and falsely claiming the person missed jury duty and will be arrested.
The scammers then tell potential victims they must pay as much as $15,000 to resolve the issue.
The sheriff’s office says the calls are fraudulent and urges residents not to respond or provide any personal information.
Officials emphasize that law enforcement will never call someone to demand payment for missed jury duty or ask for bond money over the phone.
Anyone who receives one of these calls is advised to hang up, block the number if possible, and report the incident to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
