A 3-year-old boy has died after a drowning incident in Prairie City, Illinois.
McDonough County Sheriff Nicholas Petitgout says deputies and emergency crews responded to a home on North Cadwalader Street on Friday for a report of an unresponsive child.
Authorities say the boy had been playing outside with siblings and neighborhood children when he went missing.
A neighbor working nearby found the child face down in a koi pond, pulled him from the water, and immediately began CPR while calling 911. The boy’s mother also contacted dispatch to report him missing.
The child was pronounced dead at McDonough District Hospital.
The incident remains under investigation.
