Teachers in Wapello are looking for an across the board $1,000 base pay increase. The ask opens negotiations between the district and the Wapello Education Association, the union representing the district’s teachers.
The Hawk Eye reports that the ask also includes designating five in-service days for certified staff and additional pay for teachers who take on extra class assignments when positions are unfilled.
The district’s proposal includes a much smaller $375 increase to base pay. The two sides agreed to begin negotiations in early April.
