A leadership transition is underway in West Point as longtime Police Chief Brad Roberts officially retired after 12 years in the role.

The Daily Gate City reports that the city council approved Jackson Jones as interim police chief for both West Point and Donnellson. Jones, who has served as a reserve officer in Donnellson for three years, will have up to a year to complete certification through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

During the meeting, Mayor Gary Peitz said the interim appointment was the best option given the short timeline, noting strong recommendations for Jones from within local law enforcement.
