A request to share the cost of paving part of the entrance road to the Burlington Regional Airport is on hold after mixed reactions from the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors.

The Hawk Eye reports City Manager Chad Bird presented a proposal on behalf of the Southeast Iowa Regional Airport Authority to split a $6,500 change order for paving near a ballfield at the airport. The work is not covered by grant funding. Bird suggested dividing the cost among Burlington, West Burlington, and Des Moines County—or possibly including the airport authority as a fourth contributor.

Supervisor Tom Broeker pushed back, arguing the county should only pay its proportional 13% share, roughly $845, noting Burlington holds a 75% stake and benefits the most. Supervisor Shane McCampbell said he would support a three-way split given the relatively small cost, while Jim Cary requested more time to review the proposal.

The board ultimately voted to table the decision for further consideration at a future meeting.
