West Burlington residents balked at a proposed ordinance that will eliminate chickens from being kept within the residential areas of the community. The Hawkeye reports that several members of the community spoke in opposition to the ordinance. Under the new ordinance, the practice is available to city property zoned for agriculture, for a special ag purpose, or the lot size must be two contiguous acres in size. Those requirements eliminate all residential properties in West Burlington and only one city property, Homestead 1839, qualifies under the special age use provision. Following the extensive public comment period, the second reading of the ordinance passed on a 3-1 vote.
