A woman seriously injured and a man is dead following what police call a domestic incident Friday morning in Good Hope, Illinois.
McDonough County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Nick Petitgout said the woman was found along U.S. 67 with multiple knife wounds and told responders her husband had attacked her. Passersby stopped to help before she was airlifted from the scene. She was later reported to be in stable condition.
Deputies responded around 10:30 a.m. and said the man involved retreated into a nearby home, leading to a standoff. A short time later, officials say the man set fire to his own home. The blaze picked up and once the fire was under control, crews found the man dead inside.
The Illinois State Police, along with the Illinois State Fire Marshal, are now leading the investigation. Names have not been released pending notification of family members.
