Louisa County supervisors continue weighing the future of the former county jail in Wapello as an asbestos inspection on the nearly century-old building nears completion.

The Hawk Eye reports Supervisor Shawn Maine said during the May 5 Board of Supervisors meeting that the inspection has been completed, though the final report is still being prepared. The findings are expected to play a role in determining what happens next with the structure.

No formal decision has been made, but recent discussions among supervisors have centered more on demolition than rehabilitation of the jail, which was built in 1936 and 1937.
