The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors could review a proposed moratorium on data center development as early as next week.

The Hawk Eye reports that during Tuesday’s regular meeting, Assistant County Attorney Trent Henkelvig told supervisors that a draft moratorium ordinance is currently being prepared.

The discussion follows a work session held last week focused on the possibility of future data center projects locating in Des Moines County.

County officials and residents have raised concerns because the county currently does not have countywide zoning regulations. Without zoning restrictions, developers could potentially build and operate data centers without significant local oversight.
