The board of McDonough District Hospital announced Tuesday that President and CEO Bill Murdock will step down from his position within the next 60 days.
Hospital officials said a search for a new president and chief executive officer will begin immediately, with Murdock and the board working together to support a transition once a successor is selected.
Murdock joined the hospital as chief financial officer in April 2019 and was appointed interim CEO in early 2024 following leadership changes tied to an internal investigation involving hospital management. He was officially named president and CEO on May 20, 2024, after Brian Dietz stepped down from the role.
At the time of his appointment, Murdock said becoming CEO had not originally been part of his career plans but that his experience in the interim role led him to pursue the position permanently, with an emphasis on strengthening community relationships.
