The City of Burlington moved a step closer Monday toward construction of a third fire station on the city’s north side after the city council approved plans and specifications for the project.

The Hawk Eye reports the new station will be built at 2100 N. Roosevelt Avenue and is expected to cost about $6.4 million, significantly lower than the nearly $9 million estimate presented a year ago. Burlington voters approved spending up to $7 million on the project in fall 2023.

If the bidding process remains on schedule, construction could begin this summer.
