The Lee County Board of Supervisors approved a series of contracts Tuesday to remount five county EMS ambulances through 2029, a move officials say will reduce costs while keeping emergency vehicles updated.
Supervisors unanimously approved five contracts with North Central Emergency Vehicles of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, for the ambulance work.
Lee County EMS Director Mark Long told the board the agreement will provide substantial savings for the county while allowing EMS crews to receive vehicles that are essentially like new.
Rather than purchasing brand-new ambulances, the remount process places existing ambulance boxes onto new chassis, reducing costs and shortening delivery times.
Long said the county expects to receive updated ambulances much faster than it would through new vehicle orders, while spending nearly half the cost of purchasing entirely new units.
