A Mount Pleasant man is facing an operating while intoxicated charge following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 34 in Henry County late Friday night. Authorities say 24-year-old Jose Perez-Rojas was arrested after allegedly rear-ending another vehicle near the intersection of Oakberry Avenue and Highway 34 outside New London.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. Investigators say a 2014 Dodge Ram driven by a Danville resident was traveling eastbound when it was struck from behind by a 2013 Lincoln MKS driven by Perez-Rojas. Authorities say the Lincoln approached the pickup at a high rate of speed, and the impact forced both vehicles into the south ditch.
Both vehicles were declared total losses. Perez Rojas is facing charges of operating while under the influence, failure to maintain control, possession of an open container, and failure to prove financial liability.
