Lee County leaders are being encouraged to prepare for the possibility of legalized recreational marijuana in Iowa and consider how they would regulate future marijuana and THC businesses.
SAFE/Strive Fort Madison/Best You Coalition Director Kris Rankin told county supervisors Tuesday that they should look at rules on where those businesses could be located and how they could advertise. The Daily Democrat reports she suggested limiting locations near schools, parks and daycares, as well as regulating billboards and other advertising.
Rankin said any change in state law could happen quickly, and supervisors agreed the county should begin exploring its options. She also encouraged communities to consider changing smoke-free areas to nicotine-free zones to include vaping products.
