A Burlington man is facing a domestic abuse assault charge after police say he attacked a woman with a knife during a fight early Sunday morning.
Forty-one-year-old John Eric Fenton was arrested by Burlington police and charged after police were called to a residence in the 800 block of Terrance Drive around 2:02 a.m. Sunday for a report of a woman who had been stabbed.
Officers found her across the street with an open wound to her forehead, and she was taken to the hospital. According to a criminal complaint, the woman told police Fenton threatened to kill her, broke into a bathroom where she had barricaded herself, and stabbed her in the forehead before striking her with the knife.
The woman said she bit Fenton’s ear while defending herself and then escaped to a neighbor’s home. Fenton initially said he did not remember what happened, but later told detectives he may have assaulted the woman after she bit him. His defense attorney plans to argue self-defense and says cellphone video and home security recordings will support Fenton’s account.
