
A statement was issued today by the Henderson County Coroner in Stronghurst that identifies the skull that was found on an island on the Mississippi River last month.
According to the press release, the skull was that of Shawn Patrick Berthel, who was 23 when he died in a snowmobile accident in 2011. According to the press release, partial remains were discovered in 2013 along with a snowmobile suit by the Corp of Engineers during a dredging operation. Berthel was from Bellevue and was reported missing on January 22nd, 2011 on the Maquoketa River near Preston in Jackson County.
