Suspect Arrested On Drug Charges After Loaning His Car To Friends.

West Burlington Police were summoned to Kohl’s to assist in apprehending suspects associated with potential shoplifting at the store. Police confronted the suspects in the parking lot and noticed the strong smell of marijuana coming from the car. The suspects were taken back into Kohls to meet with “Asset Protection” personnel.

34-year-old Christopher Downs arrived at the store in order to get his car, which the two suspects involved in the shoplifting incident had been driving. Prior to releasing the vehicle back to Downs, officers conducted a search and found a Crown Royal Bag under the passenger seat of the vehicle.

According to the police report, the bag contained packages materials including crystal meth, crack cocaine, marijuana, heroin and prescriptions drugs, including Alprazolam and Clonazepam. Detectives at the scene were able to tie the bag to Downs resulting in his arrest.

He is facing possession of meth, cocaine, marijuana, heroin and prescription drug charges. He was transported to the Des Moines County Jail and held on a $50,000 bond.
