Virginia Kay Rich, 86, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 12:10 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, Illinois.
Virginia was born on January 25, 1935 near Durham, Illinois, the daughter of Charles C. and Ora W. (Lowe) Rodeffer. On January 24, 1954 she married Clifford Eugene Rich in Disco, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2008.
Virginia was a 1952 graduate of LaHarpe High School. Following high school she graduated from Gem City Business School, Quincy, Illinois. Earlier in life she worked for the Lomax Canning Factory. She later worked as head cook for the LaHarpe School and the Country Café. Her longest position was working as a dispatcher for the Hancock County Sheriffs Office, retiring in 1999.
Before moving to town, Clifford and Virginia worked together on the farm. Together they owned and operated the Bargain Barn, they also sold antiques and collectibles at area flea markets. Her faith and her family were most important to her.
Virginia was a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church, Hancock County Republican Women and Modern Mother’s Club. She volunteered at the Hancock County Extension Office and with the Grey Lady Volunteers at the former Mary Davier Hospital in LaHarpe.
Survivors include four daughters- Debora (Greg) Wisslead of LaHarpe, Delinda (John) Lucas of Sutter, Illinois, Deanna Stambaugh of LaHarpe, Carol Darnell and fiance Mark Moore of Lima, Illinois and honorary children John and Tammy Hanssen of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. Seven grandchildren- Johnny Lucas, Matthew Lucas, Julie Stambaugh, Kelsey (Shaun) Keough, Tanisha Wisslead, Brandon Stambaugh and Austin (Brittany) Goughnour and one great-grandson- Nash Goughnour. Sisters- Norma Jean Voigts of Dwight, Illinois and Betty Olson of Carthage. Along with one sister-in-law- Jean Rodeffer of Stronghurst, Illinois.
Besides her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter: Mary Denise Rich and siblings: Evelyn Carter, Kenneth “Swede” Rodeffer, Richard “Jiggs” Rodeffer, and Wayne “Bud” Rodeffer.
Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the LaHarpe Christian Church. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Lois Thomas Haile, 92, of Burlington, died July 13, 2021 at the Azria Health Care Center in Mediapolis, Iowa.
Born January 15, 1929 near Richland, Iowa she was the daughter of A. Lee and Pauline A. (Robinson) Hiatt. She married Delmar “Gene” Haile on Dune 15, 1996. He died January 21, 2016. She was previously married to Leo Thomas.
Lois spent most of her working years in factory supervision, office management and bookkeeping. She was a member of the West Burlington United Methodist Church and volunteered for the church luncheons and activities, in addition to volunteering her work talents at the gift shop at the hospital and for the United Way. She served actively in the West Burlington Lions Club and worked the bingo tent every year for the West Burlington 4th of July celebration.
She enjoyed square dancing in her younger years and loved her time spent with her cat Gidget.
Survivors include her son Scott Thomas (Regina Staley) of New London; step- son Steven (Vicki) Thomas of Manhattan, Kansas; two grandchildren, Zachary and Jedadiah; three step grandchildren, Vonda, Victoria and Vanessa; several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two brothers, one sister, one niece and one nephew.
The memorial funeral service for Lois will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 19th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Nancy Sutherland will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be held in Prairie Grove Cemetery, rural West Burlington.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Karen Sue Rima, age 69, of Biggsville, Illinois, passed away at 4:35 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington. She was born November 30, 1951 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Jack and Irmhal Brewer Gibb. On August 28, 1991, she married Craig Rima in Oquawka, Illinois.
Karen was a 1969 graduate of Union High School and graduated with a Masters Degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb. She taught school for 32 years, first at Tri-Valley in Gladstone, and later at the former Union High School, and current West Central Schools. She also served as principal for 4 years at the high school, and administrator for 4 years at the middle school.
Karen enjoyed gardening, reading, and especially, spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed golfing at the former Hendco Hills golf course and loved going to the casino.
Survivors include her husband, two daughters; Megan (Ned) Adams of Carman, IL, Sara (Ryan) Daniel of Biggsville, IL, four grandchildren; Stephanie (Grant Schrock) Adams, Jackson Adams, Alexis Daniel and Elijah Daniel, one brother; Steve Gibb and one sister; Janet Lindo, both of Biggsville, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers; Paul, Gary, Larry, Jackie, and Danny Gibb, and one brother in law; Dr. S.C. Lindo.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. The family suggests memorials for the Biggsville Ambulance Service and Lindo Field in Biggsville.
