Armed residential Burglary in Fort Madison

Fort Madison, IA-  Authorities have made a pair of arrests in connection with a burglary in Fort Madison.

According to a news release, on Friday, January 21st, 2022, at 3:17 PM, officers were dispatched to an address in the 1900 block of Avenue F for a burglary in progress.

Reportedly the victim had returned home and surprised the suspects in the act of looting his home, and a struggle ensued after one of the suspects produced a handgun.

The suspect was disarmed by the homeowner and fled with his accomplices.  The victim sustained a minor injury and was later treated at a local hospital.

The principal suspects, as well as additional juveniles who were believed to be involved, were located a short time later.

18-year-old Hunter West of Argyle was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Burglary, and Assault while Participating in a Felony.  He was also arrested on a charge from Keokuk Police for Participating in a Riot.

Also arrested was an unnamed 17-year-old juvenile from Fort Madison for 2nd Degree Burglary and an outstanding warrant for Willful Injury on a previous assault charge.

All stolen property was recovered, including sporting goods, firearms, and a safe.  The incident remains under investigation.
