Lee County couple charged with animal neglect

Lee County, IA- The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Lee County couple for multiple counts of animal neglect.

On February 22nd, 2022, Detectives with the Lee County Criminal Investigations Division executed a search warrant on a property in rural Argyle.  This was in regards to alleged animal neglect.

During the investigation, multiple animals were located in poor conditions, and the couple, David and Gina Sams of Argyle were instructed to thin the number of animals in their care to make sure they were being cared for properly.

A follow-up search warrant was executed on Tuesday, March 15th, 2022, to ensure the welfare of the animals on the property.  Both Mr. and Mrs. Sams were arrested for seven counts of animal neglect.

The remaining animals were turned over to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
