Oquawka man recognized for assisting law enforcement

Oquawka, Ill.-  The Henderson County sheriff’s Office has recognized a local man for assisting law enforcement.

According to a news release, Christopher Sipes of Oquawka, IL received a certificate of appreciation from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office for his actions in assisting local law enforcement.

On Monday, March 28th, Sipes and his wife were driving home from Burlington, IA near Carman road when they noticed a Gulfport Police Officer attempting to arrest a man. The man resisted the Officer, punching him in the face, causing the Officer to slip and fall into the lane of traffic. The man then attempted to punch the officer several times.

Sipes then got out of his vehicle and helped the officer subdue the man.  The man who assaulted the officer, 29-year-old Diwyn Kalihah Presbery of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was arrested for Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, Resisting a Peace Officer, Possession of Cannabis, Possession of Controlled Substance, Obstructing Identification, and Driving While License Suspended.

Sipes was presented with the commendation on Thursday, March 21st, 2022 at the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
