Burlington Fire Department: house likely a total loss following fire

Burlington, IA-  The Burlington Fire Department says that a house is likely a total loss following a fire.

According to a news release, at about 3:10 AM Friday, May 5th, the Burlington and West Burlington Fire Departments responded to a reported house fire at 1101 S. Central Avenue in Burlington. Burlington Police officers arrived first and reported flames showing from a second-floor window.

A box alarm was struck calling in off-duty Burlington firefighters, as well as bringing Danville and Mediapolis firefighters closer to Burlington.

Firefighters arrived at 3:15 AM and located a room and contents fire in a second-floor bedroom. The fire was brought under control by 3:31 AM.

The vacant two-story house is owned by Billy Graham of Burlington and is not insured. The fire damage is contained to the second floor and attic space with smoke and water damage throughout. Damage estimates are still being assessed, but the house is likely a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Burlington Police and Fire Departments.
