Middletown, IA- The Iowa Army Ammunition plant has announced a $1.5 billion expansion.
The Hawk Eye reports that preparations have begun on a new production line, which is estimated to be completed in fiscal year 2027 and cost about $1.5 billion.
The reason for the expansion is to meet the demand for ammunition for the war in Ukraine.
The new production line will assemble and pack explosives into artillery and will be able to produce up to 85,000 rounds a month. A spokesperson for the US Joint Munitions Command said that the new line will have a “heavy focus on automation and safety.”
