Des Moines, IA- The Des Moines Police Department says that a suspect in a domestic violence incident is dead following a pursuit with law enforcement in Des Moines County.
According to a news release, on Sunday afternoon, July 23rd, Des Moines Police began searching for 31-year-old Joshua Paul Thompson in connection with a violent domestic incident. Police say Thompson fled Des Moines in a vehicle with the victim traveling with him.
Iowa State Patrol troopers and officers from multiple law enforcement agencies located Thompson’s vehicle in western Des Moines County and a pursuit began. The pursuit ended in the 200 block of North Gertrude Street after Burlington Police Officers used stop sticks on Thompson’s vehicle.
At the end of the pursuit, Thompson died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The victim in this case is in the care of law enforcement and arrangements are being made to reunite her with her family.
