Galesburg man sentenced to 28 years in prison for 2022 shooting

Galesburg, Ill.-  A Galesburg man has been sentenced to 48 years in prison for a shooting that occurred in March of 2022.

According to the Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office, Brandon Wilson was sentenced Thursday, July 20th to 48 years in prison for the March 2022 shooting of Walter A. Brown III at the Belle Isle Apartments, N. West Street, in Galesburg.

Wilson was quickly identified as the shooter and apprehended in Tazewell County.

Galesburg Police Detectives and officers secured Wilson’s Facebook account, collected physical evidence at the scene, and interviewed multiple witnesses.  Wilson was ultimately charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

During a three-day trial in January 2023, First Assistant State’s Attorney Ashley Worby presented testimony from the victim, other residents of the apartment building, multiple detectives and officers from the Galesburg Police Department, and a forensic scientist from the Illinois State Police.

The victim’s identification of Wilson as the shooter was corroborated by Wilson’s Facebook records and a fingerprint found on a plate at the scene of the shooting.

The jury returned a guilty verdict on all four charges.
