Burlington, IA- Burlington Municipal Waterworks will begin their annual flushing of city fire hydrants during the first week of September.
According to a news release, the flushing will continue for about 5 to 6 weeks. During this time, residents may experience temporary low pressures or discolored water.
If discolored water is experienced, the Waterworks suggests residents let their cold water run in a sink or bathtub capable of draining the flow for about 20 minutes.
If the problem persists, residents should notify the Waterworks office at 319-754-6501, or after hours notify the Water Treatment Plant at 319-752-7611.
Additionally, customers may notice a slight chlorine odor as the Waterworks will be disinfecting with free chlorine during the flushing process and returning to chloramines for disinfecting when finished.
