Burlington, IA- A Burlington man has been sentenced to prison for leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle.
The Hawk Eye reports that on June 12th, 28-year-old Kenneth Morrison was arrested for second-degree theft, eluding injury, OWI, drugs, or participating in a felony, failure to obey or stop at a yield sign, and probation violation.
At about 9 AM on June 12th, a woman reported that her vehicle, which was recently purchased from JD Byrider, had been stolen after she had parked it outside the Burlington Public Library.
Authorities contacted the dealership, who were able to locate the vehicle using its GPS system, and discovered the car was being driven in Fort Madison.
Fort Madison Police located and attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver fled and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended near 260th Street when the vehicle left the roadway.
Morrison was later located in a wooded area and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
Morrison initially pleaded not guilty to the charges in June, but later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of eluding in July as part of a plea deal.
On Friday, September 15th, Morrison was sentenced to up to two years in prison and ordered to pay an $855 fine.
