Kenneth Ray Klenk, 84, of Burlington, died Monday, September 18, 2023, at the Bickford Cottage in Burlington.

Born December 30, 1938, in Oakville, IA, he was the son of Russell Ray and Floreine Cornelia Cover Klenk. On October 12, 1957, he married Judith “Judy” Smith in Burlington, IA.

He was a graduate of Huron High School class of 1957.

Kenny was a member of the Cattlemen and Pork Producers Associations. He attended the First Baptist Church in Mediapolis, and was baptized in the Cedar River at age 14. He coached little league, collected arrow heads, enjoyed 4 wheeling in the mountains, camping and many trips to Colorado. Kenny loved his grandkids, tinkering around, fixing anything if somebody needed help fixing stuff. He would do anything for anybody. Kenny was a life long farmer, and worked for Des Moines County Drainage District #7 for 50 years.

Survivors include wife, Judith “Judy” Klenk of Burlington; two sons, Kory (Rhonda) Klenk and Kenton (Jill) Klenk both of Mediapolis; daughter, Kaci (Scott) Van Dalen of Ft. Collins, CO; son-in-law, Bryan Cox of Moravia; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one on the way; brother, Richard Lee (Jean) Klenk of Burlington and sister, Janice Rose (Bill) Brown of New London.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kelli, and one brother, Gary Klenk.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Monday, September 25, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street Burlington, IA.

The funeral service for Mr. Klenk will be 11:00 AM Monday, September 25, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Pastor Dan Baker officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Clover Creek Event Venue in Mediapolis.

A memorial has been established for the Mediapolis Fire Department and Ambulance Services.

Elizabeth Sumner Dickman, 74, formerly of Tell City, Indiana, died Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in Burlington.

Born January 6, 1949, in Rockport, IN, she was the daughter of Albert and Esther Little Sumner. On April 4, 1970, she married Gene Dickman. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2013.

Liz worked at GE and Tell City High School as the kitchen manager for many years.

She enjoyed a good cup of coffee, shopping, gardening, working on interior design projects and reading. She also like to spend time with her friends and attend her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. She was affectionately known as Nana, not only to her grandchildren, but many others who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Misty (Ryan) Harris of Burlington; grandchildren: Brooke Elizabeth, Emma Jean and Noah Ryan Harris; siblings: Richard (Priscilla) Sumner, Carolyn Sumner, Peggy (Larry) Cardin, Connie (Mike) Kahler, Judy (Jim Roehn) Sumner, Brenda (Richard) Simpson, Henry Sumner, and Nickii (Danny) Freeman; several nieces and nephews; honorary grandchildren, Laney and Everley Davis and dear friend, Mary Jo Sabelhaus.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Doris Davis and Debbie Sumner.

Services will be held in Tell City Indiana. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Troy Indiana.

Billy “Pops” Lee Johansmeier, 80, of Burlington, Iowa passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the Southeast Iowa Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.
Born, September 9, 1943 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Elmer and Ella (Scheihing) Johansmeier. He graduated from Wapello High School. On October 28, 1983 he married Darlene Brookhart in Burlington, Iowa. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2022.
In his early years, Bill worked at HON Industries in Muscatine, Iowa and retired after 20 years. After retirement he worked several years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa.
Bill spent hours of enjoyment walking the West Burlington Mall, hospital pond and local neighborhoods with his father, until his passing, then on his own.
Bill’s greatest joy, was spending time with his grandchildren. He was devoted to watching their sporting events, like baseball games, football games and soccer. He loved when they visited from out of town and always had the best snacks waiting.
His love of animals is known by all. Over the years he has had too many dogs and cats to count but any stray that showed up suddenly found their fur-ever home.
Bill’s last few years were spent next to his devoted wife, Darlene, at the Aspire Nursing Home in Donnellson Iowa enjoying their time together until her passing.
He made many friends along his life journey but his family always gave him his greatest joy, all his smiles and laughs and all his love.
Bill is survived by one brother Ray Johansmeier and his wife Kristy Christen of Pass Christian, Mississippi; six children Dana Dubyak (Jerry) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Jay Johansmeier (Debbie) of St. Charles, Illinois, Libby Goben (Scott) of Kahoka, Missouri, Teresa Gartner (Chuck) of Auburn, Washington, Dennis Wayne Brookhart of Burlington, Iowa and Billy Brookhart (Shannon) of Maple Valley, Washington; 14 grandchildren Derek and Sean Dubyak, Jake, Luke and Kyle Johansmeier, Christina Brooks, Jennifer Jackson, Shelby Goben, Roni Harkey, Scott Goben, Jr, Adrian Hill, Natalie Guest, Amiee Tucker, Clinton Brookhart; 27 Great Grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Betty Wheeler and Marilyn Warren; one brother-in-law Clifford Warren; lots of extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers Ronald and Donald Johansmeier in infancy, and sister-in-law Carolyn Wellborn.
Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
The service for Mr. Johansmeier will be Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Andrew Oldfield officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Wapello Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice and Des Moines County Humane Society.

Edward “Ed” Schrock, 93, formerly of Mediapolis, IA, passed away on Tuesday, September 12,
2023, at Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born January 10, 1930, in Oakville, Iowa, Ed was the son of Noah and Hattie (Lanz)
Schrock and attended Huron High School, graduating in 1947. On November 14, 1959, he
married Sara “Sally” Gerst in Burlington.
From 1951-1955, he served with the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base
in San Antonio, TX, for one year, followed by assignments at Keesler AFB in Mississippi, and
Turkey Hill Air Force Base in Belleville, IL, for three years, where he would meet lifelong friends
Dave Creamer and Ed “Skeeter” Wright. After being discharged from the Air Force, Ed then
farmed in rural Oakville for a number of years. In 1962, he and brother Bob purchased the
Mediapolis Lumber Co. from Clifford Rieke and went into the lumber business. Schrock Lumber
Company has since been in continuous operation, serving Mediapolis and surrounding
communities for more than 60 years.
Ed was known for his sense of humor, always at its best with friend Chuck Fedoris, his
passions for hunting pheasant and quail with his dogs Pete, Luke, and Babe, fishing at Kentucky
Lake in Tennessee with many local friends and relatives, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending time with family at Lake Okoboji and Lake Odessa. He was a member of the Iowa I-Club, Pheasants Forever, and Ducks Unlimited. Ed coached Little League in Mediapolis for many
years, and he and Sally were lifelong supporters of youth sports in Mediapolis.
Survivors include his wife, Sally, two daughters, Carolyn (Dennis) Breder of Mediapolis
and Kris (John) Koch of Charlotte, NC; one son, David (Kim) Schrock of Mount Vernon, IA;
grandchildren Derek and Alex Breder, Molly Kasper, Courtney Page, Kaitlyn McMurray,
Kourtney Dochterman, and Lauren and Lukas Schrock; five great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Ada Banwart, Lois Wiegand, Dorothy Schrock, Eleanor Knobloch, and Janet Beik.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Anna Schrock and Alma Langland, three brothers, John, Robert, and James, and one great grandson, Huxton McMurray.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 4 at 9:00 a.m. at Lunning Chapel in
Burlington, followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m. at Lunning. Burial will follow funeral
services at Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis. Following the burial service, a luncheon will be
held at the Clover Creek Event Venue in Mediapolis.
Memorials will be established at Big Hollow and with Mediapolis Youth League
baseball/softball.

William L. “Bill” Greenig, 81, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 12:18 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2023 at The Elms in Macomb, Illinois.

Bill was born January 11, 1942 in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Charlie “Buck” and Sadie (McQuaid) Greenig. On December 8, 1962 he married Connie Malmburg in Burlington, Iowa. She survives.

Bill attended Oak Hill Country School, near LaHarpe. He began farming at a young age and would continue farming all of his life. He loved his job. He also sold Wayne’s Feed, Cargill Seeds, Beck’s Seed and McCallister Seeds and was a commercial livestock hauler for many years. He always had one of his beloved Labrador Retrievers with him.

Mr. Greenig was a member of the Terre Haute United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife: Connie; two daughters: Joan (James) Mohr of LaHarpe and Diane “Dinah” (Andrew); one son: Troy Greenig of LaHarpe; three grandchildren: Justin (Amanda) Mohr of LaHarpe; Morgan (Nathan) Parker of Quincy and Tiffany (Mat) Kissinger of Bentley and 8 great-grandchildren: Sawyer and Sage Mohr, Jayce and Peyton Parker and Brinley, Cohen, Knoxen and Remi Kissinger.

He was preceded in death by his sister: Betty Bates.

Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2023 at the Terre Haute United Methodist Church in Terre Haute, Illinois, with Rev. Lee Unger officiating. Burial will follow in LaHarpe Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for the Terre Haute United Methodist Church or the LaHarpe Ambulance Service.

Elizabeth “Libby” Ann Egley, 78, of Burlington, died Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born March 15, 1945 in Macomb, Illinois, she was the daughter of Robert and Nora (Callahan) Melvin. She graduated from Northwestern High School and on July 5, 1980 she married Byron Egley in Burlington, Iowa.
Libby worked for IRC, Sylvania and she retired from Exide Battery for 25 years until their closing.
She enjoyed gardening and fishing. She spent lots of time on the river and loved playing “Ship, Captain and Crew” Dice game.
Survivors include her husband, Byron of Burlington; three daughters Cheryl Appleget of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Jackie Beall of Mount Sterling, Iowa, and Jolene Howe of Gilbert, Arizona; grandchildren Sarah Appleget, Jenna Appleget, Andrew Appleget, Stephanie Munson, Brently Beall, Lacey Kircher, Madison Howell, Tyler Howell; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters Janet Melvin of St. Louis, Missouri and Kay Self of Macomb, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Roger and son-in-law Mike Appleget.
Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. There will be no services at this time. Inurnment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Mausoleum at a later date.

Janet Lee Wagg, 87, of Burlington, died Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the Azria Health Prairie Ridge in Mediapolis.

Born May 8, 1936, in Muscatine, IA, she was the daughter of Donald (Doc) and Virginia Hagens Martin. On September 26, 1953, she married George Ivan Wagg in Muscatine, Iowa. He passed on June 20, 2013.

She was a 1954 graduate of Muscatine High School.

Janet worked for 30 years in customer service for Hy-Vee #1, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed going to yard sales, baking, sewing and spending time on the river. She enjoyed hosting house parties and pinochle games. Most of all, Janet loved watching her grandkids, spending time with her family.

Survivors include her sons, Randy (Cindy) Wagg, and Ron (Kris) Wagg both of Mediapolis; four grandchildren, Ben (Amanda) Wagg, Jenny (Mark Hargrave) Wagg, Eli Wagg, and Caleb (Lynette) Wagg; eight great-grandchildren, Colton, James, Brock, Maycee, Georgie, Oggie, Abby and, Kadence; step-sister, Chris Martin of Muscatine; sister-in-law, Judy Martin of Cedar Falls and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband of 59 years, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Larry Martin and her sister, Barbara Hudson.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Rebecca Ann Parcell, 65, of West Burlington, died Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born March 4, 1958, in Macomb, Illinois, she was the daughter of Charles William and Charylene (Parks) Dixon. She married John Parcell on March 14, 2008.
Rebecca worked as a CNA and Medical Aide for many years.
She attended Burlington First Assembly of God.
She was a wonderful woman who always looked out for others, above herself. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, John Parcell of West Burlington; four children, Sonia (Tim) York of Burlington, Tonia Lynn (De) Washington of Madison, Tennessee, Scott Paul Simpson of Montezuma, Iowa and Robert (Debbie) Herbert of Abington, Virginia; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and two brothers, David Charles (Joann) Dixon of Galesburg, Illinois and Duane Eugene (Dana) Dixon of Sedalia, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A private family inurnment will be held on Friday, September 22nd at Aspen Grove Cemetery. According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Larry Edsel Edgington, 73, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of New London, died Thursday, September 14, 2023 at The University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

He was born in Burlington on September 30, 1949 to Edsel Burl and Carla Jean Kinsinger Edgington. He was a 1967 graduate of New London High School and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College.

On September 21, 2022, he married Tina June Jenkins at East Lake Park, Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, and attended New London Christian Church. Larry was a farmer, worked as a Transportation Dispatcher, and drove a school bus for Mt. Pleasant School District. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, mushroom hunting and walking in the forest. He loved spending time with family and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

Survivors include his wife of Mt. Pleasant; stepdaughter Amber Jenkins of Mt. Pleasant; sons Shane of Windsor, Colorado, Christopher of Burlington, Brandon of Iowa City, Jacob (Katie) of Manchester, John of Mt. Pleasant, and Jediah of Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren, Patrick, Olivia, Madison, Miles, Jonah, Maren, Isla and Finnegan; one great-grandson Kaden; two sisters, Roma Edgington and Pam Wick, both of New London; two brothers, Wendell of Ft. Madison and Ferlin of New London; aunts; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, September 30, 2023 at Jaggar Cemetery, Danville. Visitation will begin at noon at Elliott Chapel, New London, on September 29, 2023, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Mt. Lonnie Wayne Johnson, 66, of rural Dallas City, Illinois, passed away at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Lonnie was born January 21, 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of J.W. and Betty L. (Robinson) Johnson. Lonnie married Sandy Dooley. They later divorced.

Lonnie enjoyed restoring old cars and being outdoors. He worked as a truck driver all his life. Previously, he was employed by Hazmat Environmental Group in Buffalo, New York and was currently employed by Chem Gro Inc in Adrian, Illinois.

Lonnie was a giving person and enjoyed helping others. At the end of his life he displayed this as an organ donor.

Survivors include one son: Kyle Johnson; one daughter: Shelby Johnson; three grandchildren: Camron, Chayzlee and Chloe; one sister: Vicki (Bill) Clark and three brothers: Stanley (Shelley) Johnson, Randy (Melinda) Johnson and Darrin (Shirley) Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Linda Holmes and one brother in infancy: Martin Gale Johnson.

Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.
