Burlington man arrested for drug possession

Burlington, IA-  The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Burlington man for possession of a controlled substance.

According to a news release, at about 7 PM Thursday, September 21st, Des Moines County Deputies stopped a vehicle at US Highway 61 and 60th Street for a window tint violation.

Deputies identified the driver as 52-year-old John Edward Dameron of Burlington.  A check of his driving status showed his driver’s license is barred in Iowa.

Deputies requested a K-9 unit and a Burlington Police Department K-9 unit responded. An open-air sniff was conducted around the vehicle and the K-9 alerted to the positive odor of narcotics.

A search of the vehicle was conducted, and deputies located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Dameron was arrested and charged with driving while barred, possession of a controlled substance 3rd or subsequent offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
