Burlington mobile home a total loss following fire

Burlington, IA-  The Burlington Fire Department says that a mobile home is considered a total loss following a fire.

According to a news release, at 12:54 PM Monday, October 2nd, the Burlington and West Burlington Fire Departments responded to a reported house fire at 14876 Washington Road, lot 188, in West Burlington, which is located in rural Flint River Township.

Firefighters arrived at 1:04 PM to find smoke and flames coming from a double-wide trailer.

The occupants were alerted by a neighbor who was passing by the front of the residence.  There was only one smoke detector in the residence, which failed to activate.

The occupants were able to escape without injury.  Damage estimates are being assessed, but the mobile home is considered a total loss.

The fire was accidental and caused by improper cooking habits.  One firefighter sustained minor injuries, and there were no civilian injuries reported.
