West Burlington, IA- The West Burlington City Council has accepted a bid for the second phase of the Gear Avenue Trail Project.
The Hawk Eye reports that the city accepted the low bid of $1.5 million from Jones Contracting for the second phase of the project. This part of the trail will connect routes from Huston Street to a portion that ends at Southeastern Community College.
The total grant funds for the project are $993,468, which includes grants from the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TAP), the State Recreational Trails Program, and the Wellmark Foundation.
City administrator Greg Mandsagar recommended the city council cover the gap between the grant funds and the bid, which totaled roughly $630,000, by using undesignated TIF funds.
