
Burlington, IA- The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Burlington man following a vehicle pursuit.
According to a news release, on Saturday, January 27th, Des Moines County Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle at Winegard Dr. and Roosevelt Ave. for a window tint violation.
The vehicle failed to yield to a squad car and attempted to elude deputies, who pursued the vehicle north on Roosevelt Ave. Deputies briefly lost sight of the vehicle as it turned into Memorial Park Rd., and then relocated it at Upper Flint and Irish Ridge Rd.
The vehicle continued to elude deputies north on Irish Ridge Rd., until it lost control and went into a ditch in the 14500 block of Irish Ridge Rd.
After entering the ditch, deputies observed the driver, later identified as 38-year-old Rashi Malcolm Liggins of Burlington, throw items out of the window.
The items thrown out of the window were a loaded pistol with an attached drum magazine and a bag. Deputies obtained a search warrant for the bag and the vehicle and located several individually packaged bags of marijuana, one bag of crack cocaine, and cash.
Liggins was arrested and charged with eluding 25 mph over the speed limit, felon on possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance 2nd offense, and possession with intent to deliver marijuana.
