Iowa Attempted murder suspect returns to US after fleeing to Jordan

Iowa City, IA-  A man charged with attempted murder in Iowa has returned to the US after fleeing the country.

According to the University of Iowa Police Department, Ali Younes has voluntarily returned to the US and will face trial for an incident in which he is accused of robbing and strangling a person in Iowa City in April of 2022.

Younes was originally scheduled to be tried for attempted murder, first-degree robbery, and first-degree theft on May 16th of 2023, but he used Jordanian travel documents to flee the country after cutting off his ankle monitor on May 6th of 2023.

Authorities say Younes was taken into custody after arriving in Chicago on Tuesday, August 27th, and is awaiting extradition back to Iowa.

He now faces an additional charge of escape by a felon.
