City of Burlington to hold initial ribbon cutting on design work for Cascade Bridge

Burlington, IA-  The City of Burlington has announced the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Cascade Bridge project, marking the beginning of the of the highly anticipated design and engineering phase.

The event will take place at 3:45 PM on Tuesday, October 8th, at the North side of Cascade Bridge on Main Street.

Burlington City Manager Chad Bird says this project is critical to enhancing transportation infrastructure, ensuring safety and preserving an important piece of Burlington’s history.

After years of planning and preparation, the design and engineering phase will set the foundation for Cascade Bridge’s future.

Special guests including US Congresswoman Mariannette Miller Meeks, Iowa House Representative Matt Rinker, and Burlington Mayor Jon Billups was be in attendance to show support for the project.

“We are thrilled to embark on this critical phase for the Cascade Bridge,” said Jon Billups, Burlington Mayor. “This project has been a priority for our city, and we are grateful for the support from Congresswoman Miller-Meeks in submiting the project for Congressional Community Project Funding. The National Scenic Byways Program, the Iowa Department of Transportation and our partners in helping us make this vision a reality.”

The City has secured funding for the project from the Iowa Department of Transportation city bridge fund in the amount of $1,000,000; the National Scenic Byways program award in the amount of $1,071,000; and a Congressional Community Development Fund award in the amount of $6,000,000.
