Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks secured reelection in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District after a recount confirmed her narrow victory over Democrat Christina Bohannan. The rematch ended with Miller-Meeks leading by fewer than 1,000 votes, less than one percentage point. Bohannan had requested the recount, which was covered by the state due to the slim margin. The results add to Republican gains in the U.S. House and maintain Iowa’s all-GOP congressional delegation.
Miller-Meeks, a former 2nd District representative, continues to represent eastern Iowa. Bohannan, conceding the race, highlighted her campaign’s focus on economic fairness and bipartisan solutions. Miller-Meeks’ campaign criticized the recount as unnecessary and costly, calling it a delay tactic.
In Davenport’s House District 98 race, a recount confirmed Democrat Monica Kurth’s 45-vote win over Republican Nathan Ramker. The recount board upheld the initial results, finalizing Kurth’s reelection.
Meanwhile, in a key central Iowa legislative race, Democratic State Senator Sarah Trone Garriott retained her seat after a recount widened her lead over Republican Mark Hanson from 24 to 29 votes. Hanson, a Dallas County Board of Supervisors member, has yet to concede.
