Letha Sher Brown, 55, of Danville, died Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at home. According to her wishes, her body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Elliott Chapel, New London, is assisting the family with arrangements and online condolences may be left at www.elliottfuneralchapel.com.

 

Lyle Litton, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, December 6, 2024 at New London Specialty Care.

Fred “Fritz” Wilkerson, 90, of Burlington, Iowa, died Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Bickford Assisted Living in Burlington.

Born on October 26, 1934, in rural Prairie Grove, Iowa, he was the son of Fred and Fern (Stout) Wilkerson. On December 18, 1955, he married Donna Sherwood at Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Grove, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 2, 1991.

After 25 years, Fritz retired from Burlington River Terminal. He was a member of Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Family was always first and nothing came before attending a family members event. He cherished his farm and caring for his land. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and thoroughly enjoyed watching the 2016 World Series and attending the Southeastern Community College Blackhawks basketball games. What Fritz valued most was being with his loving family.

Fritz is survived by his two children: Lisa (Doug) McElroy of Ottumwa, Iowa and Robert (Mandy) Wilkerson of Burlington, Iowa; five grandchildren: Rachel (Coady) Spurgeon, Kaitlin (Tyler) Craff, Ahleah Hook, Emily (Hunter) Wilkerson and Cade (Shayla) Wilkerson; six great grandchildren: Elleigh, Ava and River Jo Spurgeon, Beau, David Fritz Wilkerson, Cove Reusch and baby Craff on the way. Also surviving is sister Becky (Terry) Rodeffer of West Burlington, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Fern Wilkerson; wife Donna; daughter Lori Wilkerson and sisters: Katherine Eileen Kleinkopf and Janet Asmus.

The visitation for Fritz will be held at 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Fritz will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2024, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Jan Garza officiating. Burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his memory for Des Moines County Animal Shelter.

Dianna Lynne Quinn, 76, of Burlington, died Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield surrounded by family.

Born September 28, 1948, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Jesse and Gladys Patton Snakenberg. She married George Quinn and they later divorced. From this union, she was blessed with her two children, Rick and Tammy.

She attended Burlington High School.

Dianna was a very talented artist and she enjoyed decorating cakes, making Barbie furniture for all the children of the family, arts and crafts and cross stitch. She liked staying connected to family through facebook and enjoyed playing all sorts of online games. Most of all, Dianna dearly loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Richard (Sandra) Quinn of Mediapolis; four grandchildren, Alyssa (Derek) Hancock, Jacob (Emma) Quinn, Khrystyna (Brandon) Treanor and Joseph Anspach; eight great-grandchildren, Addison Jo, Jesse, Ella, Carter, Raelynn, Joseph, Alexandra and Rowan; one sister, Rexetta Spiker; and two brothers, David and Charles Snakenberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Tammy Anspach, grandson, Richard Anspach, and four siblings, Connie, Ronnie, Linda and Beth.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Jean Day-Stamper, 82, of Burlington, died Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born May 27, 1942, in Burlington, she was the son of Lorenz H. and Florence Marie Brookhiser Vahle. On December 20, 1959, she married Louie Jr. Day. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2003. She later married David Stamper on July 29, 2006.

Jean drove a school bus for the Burlington Community School system for 21 years.

She was a member of Spring Grove United Methodist Church and the American Ladies Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, David Stamper of Burlington; daughters, Virginia Eastin of Burlington, and  Lori (Jim) Parcel of Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Drew Eastin, Adam Parcel, Astara and Aaron Stamper and Silas and Eleanor Boyer; and great-grandchild, Griffin Day Eastin.

Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, parents, two brothers, Walter R. Rehm and August F. Vahle, sister, Emma Bruhl and son, Chad Stamper.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Monday, December 9, 2024 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

James Randall Richardson, 54, of Burlington, died Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at his home.

Born January 18, 1970, in Iowa City, he was the son of Randall Richardson and Karen Butts Richardson West.

He was a 1988 graduate of Burlington High School.

James was most recently a welder at Addison Mechanical. He previously worked at WalMart Warehouse in Mt. Pleasant and in construction.

He enjoyed cooking, making welded art, painting and playing “Pass the Pigs”. He loved being outdoors and he was proud of the way he maintained his yard. He loved his cat, Squeaks!

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Karen and Clinton West of Burlington; life partner, Carla Bell of Burlington; daughter, Miranda Richardson of Burlington; son, Hayden Richardson of Burlington; grandson, Zeppelin Sena; and brother, Shane Michael Richardson of Wapello.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Betty and Howard Butts, paternal grandparents, Melvin and Juanita Richardson and two maternal uncles.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Shirley Louise Almendinger, 94, of Janesville, WI, formerly of Burlington, died Monday, December 2, 2024, at her home.

Born March 19, 1930, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Dennis Henry and Ethel Marie Meyer Chriss. On December 27, 1951, she married James Norman Almendinger in Burlington. He died December 22, 2001.

Shirley moved to Janesville, Wisconsin in 2010 to be close to her daughter and grandchildren. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and making different crafts. While Jim was alive, she enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the U.S. in their motorhome. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Burlington, the Moose and American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter, Lori Ann (Allen) Donahue of Janesville, WI; three grandchildren Jennifer, Jimmy and Matthew Donahue; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband of 50 years, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Christy Almendinger and three sisters, Betty Kinnison, Phyllis Byers and Dorothy Ryder.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Monday, December 9, 2024 at Prugh’s Chapel, 317 North 4th St. A Graveside Committal Service will follow the visitation at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Zion United Church of Christ.
